Weblog Assignment #5
I visit here and from this site I know many of geder problems, like gender discrimination When 90 out of 400, and sexul harassment in there job. In this site not only I know wWhen 90 out of 400omen are defficault to find a job, but also I know they are defficault to apply a job even they pass the exams or they have high ability! For example, even though the job which is good for men, but women want to apply, and from the chart,When 90 out of 400 women who have ability to take the exam, but eventually, the are all failed. What is more, they are still disccused about that whether women can save the people or not, and this site will reconsider this problem.
In my opinion, the problem of gender discrimination is still very serious. In this time, gender had changed from before. Not only men can do the job like firefighter, but women can, too. And most of them through the survey, and state that in most time, their ablilities are more higher than men and in some case, their tests which are deside them whether they can have job are more higher than men, but eventually they can not have their own jobs. this is one of evidences that they have the problem of gender discrimination. So, now we have to do is to except their vocations, and use the thankful way to see them.

Weblog Assignment #4
I visited here and I saw many of Arnold Schwarzenegger's
photos!! Though now he does not appear in the movies
anymore, people who live on the earth will know
him, why? Because he was so famous before. In this web
site, I can see many of his photos, I can know many
information about what kind of role he had played
before, like a hero, a policeman, a good father, or a
bad man who is very strong!!! In these 340 photos of
him, I can know he is really a nice actor, not only he
had good acting skills before, but also had a strong body
that and many muscles.
In my opinion, even though Schwarzenegger does not
act any more,he is still served for the people.
Now he is California's governor, and the people still like him. I sincerely hope he can continue to make
movie, because all of my family like him. Not
merely can we see his professional skills, but we can also
admire his body that has many muscles as well.
However, I think he made a lot of influnces on movie,
because he created many new roles, and he used his own
ways to let us remenber him. This is an important
impact on movie. Without him, I think the motion picture
industry will not be as successful as now.

writing~~New Views on Video Violence
New Views on Video Violence
AE2-B BY Carol
According to “ New Views on Video Violence, “ by Dorothy and Jerome Singer, watching violence on TV has more negative effects on children than reading violent stories. There has some reasons as follows. At first, when you watch television, the image is shown on your eyes. On the other hand, we can not control the image. Children are young so they do not know how real or fantasy is. If children see the violent image, it will shock them. Secondly, children spend too much time to watch television. Thirdly, children who are older can read books. However, children also have an ability to distinguish between reality and fantasy. Children can watch the television whether they are younger or older. Then, parents can read books for children. If books include violence vividly, they can modify the stories and make children not feel afraid. Finally, if children read books, they can control their speed. Children create the images when they read. In the contrary, television moves so quickly that you do not control. It can change children’s mind. Therefore, the television can make negative effect for children. We have to protect children and prevent them from the violence. Parents should notice which kinds of programs children watch. Therefore, I think children watching TV are more violent than reading books.
At first, children are often alone while watching TV. They can imitate something from TV program but no one can tell them real directions immediately. They do not have ability to choose program whether good or bad. . From now on, it is increasing on TV program. It has so many channels that we can choose. However, they do not understand the meaning of TV program. It still shows the images or pictures or postures. If they watch TV, children would accept information first.
Then, young children who just know some simple words do not read all the readings. They do not know a lot of words and meanings even though they saw some paragraphs about violence. While reading books or stories, children are older enough that they can know what different between unreal and real is. In addition, parents can explain passages about their questions. If children feel afraid, parents can reduce the frightening aspects of the characters.
Watching TV is a popular recreation now. It is not only common in adults but also in children. However, adults can distinguish what real is but children not. Children have to depend on parents to explain the content whether TV programs or stories. When children are watching TV, parents do not watch with them, then, it is shows images in their mind immediately. In the contrary, children can handle their speed while reading but watch TV not. However, I think children should be protect and keep away from violence. Parents have to care about what kinds of content in TV or in story is. Television moves so quickly that children do not control. Therefore, I think children watch TV are more dangerous than read story.

This article talked about socialization. It has two parts of contents, including socialization for human beings and non-human animal species. The first paragraog mentioned five kinds of socialization , agents of socialization, and products of socialization. The second paragraph has two examples for cats and dogs. The auther thinks that eviornment is important whether human beings or animal. They explained aout the two examples.
I agree with this article viewpoints. I also think eviornment is important. It can affect peopel to do anything. The young children's behavior depends on parent's attitude. They can learn what parents do, so the family has to decide what's approprite carefully. The two examples prove how important eviornment is.

It also has games to play and you can see new movies. It is full of the pink color. You can listen the music if you want.
I like this website because it is pink. It is designed for girls I think. I play the games. It is fun. You can see all kinds of Barbie here. You can link every in directions that you like. It is an attractic website for girls.

The website talked about women's boxing. The name of the organization in the internet is WBAN, which means women boxing archive network. You can see a picture of women who play boxing. It has many links about WBAN forms, editorials, and history of women boxing. The new fight results were from Aguest 2006. It introduced many boxers. These women are strong as men. It has male-female bouts.
I have never seen women boxing. Although boxing is violent, it is still an exciting sport. I saw a women who passed away, because of boxing. It is so unbelievable. Many peopel like to watch boxing because they think it is so exciting. If you like women boxing, it is a good website that you can see.

I visit this website is talked about gender wage gap. The website has many classify. I saw this graph. It is belonged for social and culture of almanacs. The survey is focus on women’s wage. You can link into some information about gender. It has four main surveys, including estimated earnings1 of under $20,000, earnings1 between $20,000 and $34,000, earnings1 above $34,000, and majority of workers are women. According to the survey, I saw the majority of workers are women who are Registered nurse. Nevertheless, the most earning ratio is social worker.
I am not surprised while seeing this graph. Women often do feminine occupation, such as nurse. I have never seen the nurse as male. Women often do assistant job while working. In recent years, many people discussed about the equality between male and female in working. However, it has something changed. Women would have a awareness gradually. I assume female would do male’s job one day.

Eroupean women
80% of Eroupean women completed high school and 75% of Eroupean men did the same.
more than 50% of university students are women, but women get 15% less than men salaries.
the highest country of working women is Cyprus and they say the reason women get lower salaries because they work part time.
The European institute for gender equality will be operated by Jan 01 2007, and it takes care of the follow:
1- an excellent resource for gender quality issues
2- providing experiences and improving knowledge
It will have a budget of 52.5 million euros for the period until 2013.
in my opinon,
there should be more than one institution for working women issues and they should make the
regulations for women as the same for men. such as same wages and same jobs and same rights.

SIU CESL Student
Remember! Remember! Remember your last day in your country when you were leaving,
when the last sun started rising in the East,
when soft gray solar rays reached your house,
when the first cock crowed and swelled over your house, you woke up and summarized your purposes for your traveling to the U.S.
Joys and complaints were mixed about your departure.
You were leaving your family with the promise you'll come back with great degree.
You were waving hands to your sincere friends who agree or disagree.
However you felt, the plane withdrew you from your progenitors.
Whatever your relatives said, you turned your back to the earth of your ancestors.
When moving through the air, courage crossed your heart and you conquered the isolation and despair.
When approaching the destination, a great breath gave the last consolation.
After the plane moved you through the air above the sea and vegetation, it dropped you in SIU's hands where found immediately a new international family: CESL students.
From many different countries, they surround you with joy and love.
From now on, you belong to that family and you put on a new resplendent cloth.
Solidarity and good manners wrap you and worries are abolished.
Troubles and confusion which were dangling from you are pushed.
Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, Benines, Saudi Arabian and so forth, all gather together and pick you up, care for you like an egg.
So, get free, relax and enjoy yourself.
Don't complain about your low level in English.
Just study hard with determination.
CESL guarantees you some interesting surprises.
Speak; write; read and listen to English, such are your preoccupations.
However your brain is, volunteer CESL teachers are still ready to rebuild it and find a place for: "Subjects, verbs and objects" so you could make good sentences whether speaking or writing.
Why are you complaining?
Your dream will be reality before another sun rises and another cock crows. So you'll get all the keys to open grammar's door, vocabulary's door, and orthography's door, and find easily anything you want for your good English.
Never give up because of your bad grade in class. Any time, tell yourself that "the Frog will get its target." Find a piece of chalk and try to draw a frog with target on your board. Believe in it and you'll win, win and always win.

FAIRY TALE "A MONKEY VS A CRAB"
This is a folk tale from Japan.
Once upon a time, there were a monkey and a crab. The crab had a rice ball and the monkey had a pit of persimmon. The monkey wanted a rice ball. So he asked the crab to exchange it for the pit. "If this pit grows up and bears fruit, I would climb the tree and give you fruits.' They promised and exchanged. then the crab raised it and grew it well. Then the tree bore many fruits. The crab called the monkey and asked him to pick up. However, the monkey did nothing but eat. He didn't try to hand the crab fruits. "Hey! Are you listening? Give me the fruits." The monkey said to crab, "Shutup!" and threw green persimmons at the tree. The hard fruits hit the crab. Unfritunitely, the crab died.
A son of the crab found his moher and became sad. The son decided to avenge his mother. A bee, some mortar, and chestnut helped the son.
At that, when the monkey went away, the crab group broke into the monkery's house. They hid themselves and waited for his return. the chestnut hid in a fireplace. The mortar stayed on the roof. The son hid in a water jar. The bee hid in a ceiling.
Finally, the monkey came back. Because it was cold, he tried to warm his hands at the fire. Suddenly, the roasted chestnut jumped into him. The monkey soaked his hand in the water jar. Then the crab appeared and cut his tail. At once the bee stung him. When the monkey want outside, the mortar jumped on him. Monkey said, "I'm so sorry. I regret what I did.'
The story concludes happily.

I visited A Bad Girls. This site is about women who kill. There are The Killers Master List, Killers By Category, and so on. When I click each murderer's name, I can know what the lady did and who is killed with pictures. In addition, this website accepts information about killers. We can research on specific murders or classifications.
In my opinion, there are some human rights abuses in this website because on the list are murderers who have already been excuted. Their relatives may be discliminated against still by this information. Certainly, offenders need to take their punishment. But this website is a highly controversial page.
Weblog Assignmnt#4
I visited Schwarzenegger photo gallery. There are 340 pictures of Schwarzenegger, who is an actor. If you can click home, page would return to main page. Name of this website is A.S.I.F.C. It means Arnold Schwarzenegger Italian Fan Club. So the article is written in Italy. In most pictures, he is naked to the waist and smile sweetly.
In my opinion, Schwarzenegger emphasizes the man. Cetainly, his figure is attracted a lot of women. It influences major impact on the other men. Many guys try to build up their bodies like him to be popular with girls. People consider muscle is one of arm for men. These pictures may cause gender gap.

If you click here, you can go to SLOWLANE.COM. This web site helps staying at home dads and their families. There are many searchable online references, resources and networks on this web site. Therefore, they can find out a lot of information which can help them easily. We can also read articles, buy many books, see news, and enjoy poetries. All of them are written for staying at home dads including local and international dad organizations, single dads, new dads, and divorced dads. In addition, there are many links not only to discuss about those issues, but also to communicate with people who have same situations.
My opinion
Nowaday, dads who stay at home like single dads, new dads, or divorced dads are increasing gradually. I think this web site is very useful for those people, because they can find out the way to live more comfortably. They also can contact with people who have same situations, so they can share their ideas and opinions each other. As a result of this, they can release their stresses and strains for their societies or families. I think this web site offers them a good opportunity to solve their problems.
Weblog Assignment #3
I saw this web site. The article on the web site states that many European women are still in cruel circumstances for their work despite the fact that they do better in school than men. From this article, we can get the information about present circumstances of gender roles for their work, and know about some different treatment between male and female. There are mainly three kinds of information with some of the statistics. According to the first statistics, Latvia has the highest proportion of women managers. The second statistics show that Cyprus has the highest gender pay gap. The third statistics show the average of one third of women who are part-time workers.
My opinion
There is a similar problem in Japan. I wonder that despite the fact that a lot of women have better education in school than men, this is not reflected on entry to the labor market, and if they get jobs, their wages are less than men's wages. However, as this article says, I think this matter is getting better gradually. One of the reasons is that gender institution deeply thinks about it. Also in some countries, many women clamor against their government policy, because of lower pay. Therefore, I think this matter will be improved in the future.
Japanese fairy tale "Kaguyahime"
Once upon a time, a grandpa and grandma lived somewhere. Grandpa made money by making baskets with cut bamboo. One day, when he went to the forest as usual, he found bamboo which twinkled brightly. he cut this bamboo and looked into the inside of this bamboo. Then, there was a baby girl in this bamboo. As they had no children, they decided to bring up this baby girl. He named the baby girl "Kaguyahime". She grew up very well, and she became very beautiful. She was proposed to a lot of young men many times. She led them to look for treasure as a condition for accepting their proposal, but the treasure never existed, so they couldn't find the treasure. So actually Kaguyahime didn't want to marry. She became sad day be day. One day, grandpa asked her about that. She answered that an ambassador may pick me up from the moon before long. Then, finally the day came. As grandpa didn't want to give her to them, he attacked them. However, it was hopeless to protect Kaguyahime. Eventually, Kaguyahime returned to the moon with the ambassador. It's a sad story.

Don't Call Me Mr. Mom!
For web log assignment # 4 I chose the http://www.slowlane.com/ for stay-at- home Dads, by Buzz McClain. This website explains and has some story for some fathers and has too some questions for someone who is Dad for children. There are 10 questions; I will take 5 and try to do those shortly and good summary, for title. “Don’t call me Mr.” Mom. Always the men have problems for stay at home raising the children and the mothers at location of work the men often refuse that job, usually fathers are not patient with children like mothers and some bad words sometimes came out from fathers to their children. This page will help Dads and give them experience to try and do this job. There are some questions.
"What are you going to do when you go back to work in the real world?" the dads hate this, because it implies raising children isn't real and it isn't work.
"Wouldn't it be better for the kids if the mother stayed at home?" the father stays at home is be ther than when given over to professional day care, the mothers are more involved in their children's lives. The kids get two parents with strong influences.
"What do you do with all your spare time?" There is not enough time to do all of it alone like food, clothes, beds, and laundry and teach, Besides seeing to the children.
"Who wears the pants in the family?" the dads are likely to wash more dishes, fold more laundry and go to the tot lot more than other the fathers, but when mom is at home dads play and watch just as much sports.
"Oh, so you're Mr. Mom." Don't call us Mr. Mom. If you must call at-home dads something, try Mr. Dad.
In my opinion no one can take all responsibility alone. There is connection between mom and father, except in some some situations, it is too much for one person to do alone, because the will work help and assistante. There are some programs to help single mothers and fathers like websites, or some places; for example, today all fathers and mothers need daycare for children or a baby sitter.

9-Men speak in sentences.
9-Women speak in paragraphs
10-Men get drunk, and then cry.
10-At weddings, women cry then get drunk.
11-Men offer a solution.
11-Only women can understand other women.
12-Men use I or me when they should use we or us.
12-Women use we or us when they should use I or me.
13-When men want something they ask for it.
13-When women want something they make a point distantly related to the subject and wait.
In my opinion I agree with that, because all that information is just like number
and some people did some research and looking for different points. I agree all the
Women have an ability to make men think they are in charge, and in some story in the
background some women did some famous things by thing.

The different between men and women
I visited the BBC site which is talking about the different between men and women. This site tell us that is 78 genes are different between men and women and their agenda shoe us the different between them. Such as ''women understand colors. They see to know what to wear all the time. Men just think red is nice, pink is nice so why not have them. Also, this has pictures for men and women.
In my opinion this site is useful to people who want to know about the different between men and women. Also, I recommend to people to visit this site.

I visited the site http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/3002946.stm "what are the 78 differences between women and men?"
Scientist research about the human genome realized that 78 differences genes separate men from women.
About 78 genes we need some effort to understand people that each genes is different.
My opinion.
I already know about each genes part a little but it's too much than I known.
So it makes me surprise. This will make men and women different but I think these days almost similar than last time, men and women's gene role. I think it is good for our society. They just different because of their's genes so it is very basic thing men and women so don't worry about their's are different.

I visited this website thesouthern.com. This site has a lot of resources of Southern Illinois such as sports, local news, and business. The article of this site is about a woman of 45 who is Carbondale's first female firefighter. Her name is Dana MacCrimmon. She was named many achievements that are this local and city’s Employee. Also, she has respect from Carbondale's people. Although she was ill, she was devoted to the residents. Carbondale's residents loved her and were sad about the news of her death.
In my opinion, this web site is a useful site for local residents of Carbondale. The article of this site is about Dana MacCrimmon who is the first local firefighter. I never have seen a woman firefighter in Korea. Generally, people think that a firefighter is a man. However, I think that it is gender discrimination. Women firefighters can give a good impression because they are like the mom to people.

I visited> Carbondale woman firefighter dies at 45. This article is contained in The Southern, which is a website about southern Illinois. We can see many kind of articles here. This page tells us that Dana MacCrimmon, Carbondale's first female firefighter, died last August at the age of 45. At the bottom the page, there are many comments of her friends. They said she was a respectable person.
In my opinion, it is not good idea to be a firefighter for women because men are stronger than women. Surely, she was a wonderful person. If women can be a fire fighter, women have to take a role of a mother of the other men in fire house. Most women have children. Young children need their mother. Being a fire fighter is too dangerous.

EU’s gender gap still wide open
I visited BBCsite. This site is another BBC news item which takes news from everywhere online. I read ‘EU’s gender gap still wide open’ in this site. It explains a new policy about the imbalance of genders to take a job in Europe. In many countries in Europe, women have a higher grade education than men. However, women not only get lower pay than men, but also a have lower employment rate than men. So, the institute in Europe will enforce a new policy to improve all of rate that is gender balance.
I think this matter is not a problem of only Europe. Other countries have the same problems in a area of gender balance. In my country, Korea, we have similar problems. Most of all, Asians tend toward paternalism which is centered on the father. So, this matter may be more of anextreme problem than in Europe. In my country, women receive as much education as men, but many women do housework after marriage even now. I think it will require people’s change of heart in order to solve the problem.

Slowlane
I visited slowlane site. This site offers useful information to stay- at-home dads and their children. It has various information from cooking to artcle that are about fathers. Also we can easily find more information because it is linked to other useful sites. And then it not only offers online sources, but also provides various events to stay- at- home dads. This site is an online place that gives dads convenience.
Lately, in my country, Korea, there is an increase in house-working husbands because of women’s socialization. It is a very rational method for couples who have different ability from each other. They should find suitable jobs for themselves. So, I think this site will help husbands who don’t have house-working experience. A new experience will require help for anyone. we need a lot of advice and experience to take care of children and to cook food for a family. So, I think this site will provide a lot of help to stay-at-home husband.

Women Boxing
I went to a women's boxing web site. It has a women boxing archive. There are pictures on the site's homepage which are for some famous female boxer. I saw Laila Ali's pictures who is one of the most famous female boxer. She is the daughter of Mohamad Ali, who was one of the best in boxing sport. There are many links on the lift of the site, forexample, the lastest news, upcoming events, and fight results and more.
In my opinion this is one of the worst sports I have known. It is a kind of fighiting, bloodletting, and violence. It teaches children violence. I remember when we were kids we did what we saw from boxing sometimes with each other. Also, I don't like women to be like men, having muscles and fighting. So, I hope to not marry a boxer woman in the future.

Europe's Gender Gap
I went to BBC News on the web. It is a popular site on the Internet. The site has the world's news. On the left of the site you can choose the langusge you want. The site has many items of news about sport, business, politics, weather, etc. I went to the article, "Europe's gender gap." It has graphs that sow the difference among some European countries in gender gap of jobs.
In the article the author mentions that more women are in highschool than men. Also, wmen are getting better scores than men in school. But women still get worse jobs and less income. The author states that European countries are going to balance the difference. I think they should stop the inquality as soon as possible. These countries keep always saying that the women's right in their countries is better than the others, but according to the article, it is not true.

A firewoman's death at her post
A firewoman's death at her post
One fire-woman who gained the confidence an associate was killed at work. According to buy.com, Wed. Aug. 16, 2006, Dana MacCrimmon had worked at the Carbondale fire station since 1998. She had responded to a fire call at 10:59, Thu. Aug. 10 2006, and became ill. After returning to the fire station, she was transported to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, where she died at 2:20 P.M the next day. She was 45 years old and left 3 children, two sons and one daughter.
This news is a very heart-rending experience. First of all, may her soul rest in peace! Before I've heard the work of firefighter was hard and dangerous, so even young and strong men tend to avoid doing it. Some people said that it was one kind of 3D(Difficult, Dangerous, Dirty) job. But she carried it out as a woman. Our society is getting better, and giving a valuable wages to live, which satisfies firefighters like her. I think the society should take care of her children. Once more I would like to say may her soul rest in peace!

The Goose with the Golden Eggs (Aesop’s Fable )
The Goose with the Golden Eggs
- Aesop’s Fable -
A countryman had a goose that gave him golden eggs every day in the story of The Goose whth the Golden Eggs by Aesop’s Fable. He became rich because he sold the golden eggs, but he thought he was still avaricious. He killed the goose in order to get many golden eggs at one time. When he opened the goose’s stomach, he couldn’t find any golden eggs there. So he lost the good opportunity to get golden eggs. This was a result of his too many desires.
This is a famous example of Aesop’s Fables. Most children in the world might have read it. I also have read the fairy tale books that my parents bought me pleasantly. It was a brief and interesting story and it gave us a good lesson. This reminds me of my elementary school life. One day my teacher said that if we had too many desires, it was very dangerous for us to fall in the fail. So we should try to make effort step by step. I think this is a good story for children, so I’d like to recommend it to children’s parents, even if they enjoy watching T.V or video instead of reading books.

Weblog Assignment #5
AE2-B
RYO
I visited this web site. If you visit this web site, you can get the information about DOOM (the name of a killing game). This computer game was developed by id Software in 1993. This is one of the most famous first-person shooter games in the world. Now, there are several series because these games have a high popularity among young men. On the other hand, there are many arguments against killing scenes, and shoot-out scenes in these games.
My opinion
I think these killing games may cause serious problems for young people, because if you play these games, these teach you how to use a gun, kill people, and something like that. Moreover, if you continue to play these games, you might get an illusion. Then, you will become unable to distinguish between reality and fantasy. Even though these games are liked by young people, I don't think these are really good for those reasons.

Assignment#5
AE2-A
Atsumi
I introduce this web site here.
This web site is Southern Illinois' homepage and there are several pages, for example, local, sports, lifestyles and so on. This time, the article describes about a female firefighter and it is written by Nicole Sack on Wednesday, August 16, 2006. Dana MacCrimmon who was Carbondale's first female firefighter died because of her duty. About 75 firefighters and emergency responders attended her funeral and payed their respect to her. She was good person and was loved by everyone...
My opinion
I felt very sad when I read this article. She was only 45 years old. She was great woman who was brave as a firefighter. I think that losing someone is the hardest and bitterest thing...especially the person is your family and friends. Also, I was impressed by another firefighters' respect that payed to her. They work for people for dear with their pride. I want to pay my respect to her, firefighters and emergency responders, and I think we have to respect them.
